Barbara and Federico
Invite You to Share their Love for the Sannio
Barbara moved to Rome with her family in 1961 at the age of 5 where her parents opened the Economy Book Center, a new and used paperback bookstore on the Spanish Steps. She grew up in Italy, and worked for many years as a dancer, teacher and choreographer.
She met Federico (who was working as a lighting technician) while on tour with a theatrical musical. Since their marriage in 1982, Barbara and Federico have worked together in the family’s business.
They stumbled across their new home in the Sannio while visiting Italian friends. They felt as if they’d been taken back in time to when people lived their lives at a more comfortable pace. Fresh produce came to the table straight from the garden and the local population, with their innate sense of hospitality, made them feel welcome and a part of their lives, even if there only on a brief stay.
They returned many times, falling deeper in love with the people, their history and lively traditions which are elsewhere disappearing, while discovering excellent foods and magnificent wines. In 2004 they decided to make their dream come true, closed the bookstore, packed their bags and moved to S. Agata dei Goti.
